A family friend visiting for a holiday, being a patchworker herself, found herself roped in to help me pin all the layers together. (Quilts have three layers, the top which is all the hard work, the batting or wadding in the middle and the back, there to help hold it all together. It is then "quilted" by sewing through all three layers, usually in decorative patterns.)
